In addition to collecting and disseminating data to stakeholders, information collected will be combined into a multi-state database by CDC to describe regional and national trends in violence. Throughout the funding period, applicants will engage in four primary activities:1. Create and update a plan to implement NVDRS in targeted areas across jurisdictions and agencies.2. Collect and abstract comprehensive data on violent deaths from DC, CME reports including toxicology reports, and LE reports using a web-based data entry program and guidelines provided by CDC. 3. Disseminate NVDRS data to stakeholders and the public. This will be evidenced by the dissemination of NVDRS data through multiple methods (e.g., presentation, web reports, publications, and fact sheets) to the public and organizations working to prevent violence as well as responding to requests for data or ongoing data sharing with key stakeholders.4. Explore innovative methods of accessing, reporting, and sharing data that could lead to improved timeliness and greater utilization of data for prevention efforts. These four activities are designed to enhance the ability of violence prevention efforts to identify, select, target, implement, and evaluate violence prevention initiatives and ultimately reduce violence. In order to translate data into action to reduce violence, violence prevention activities and capacities outside the scope of this FOA will be needed such as ongoing violence prevention activities and the ability to use data to inform program or policy decisions.
