Agency Name: Centers for Disease Control – CGH
Description: The purpose of this 5-year project is to continue to collaborate with the government of China to reduce the threat of infectious disease transmission in China and around the world, which in turn contributes to the common defense of both countries against emerging and pandemic threats and strengthens our bilateral relationship with China in public health. The program has three broad goals: 1) to jointly carry out public health activities to prevent, detect, and respond to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and public health emergencies in China that have potential for global impact, 2) to further develop China’s own capacity to carry out these public health activities, and 3) to enhance China’s role as a global partner to support public health strengthening of other countries. Activities may include joint investigating and monitoring of disease outbreaks, piloting innovative public health interventions, consulting on outbreak responses and risk communication, strengthening public health capacity, strengthening technical partnerships, promoting rapid and transparent dissemination of public health data in China, helping develop China CDC’s Center for Global Public Health, jointly supporting the Africa CDC, and collaborating on and coordinating global public health activities in other countries. Depending on funding availability and priorities, the specific infectious disease entities to be addressed are expected change over the project period.
