The Service intends to make a Single Source award to theUniversity of Nevada, Reno.  Funds underthis award are to be used to sequence the genomes of samples of Mycoplasma agassizii and M. testudineum that were originallyobtained from wild tortoises. These genomic sequences will be used to constructphylogenetic trees of these species, which are pathogenic to the Mojave Deserttortoise (Gopherus agassizii). Thegenomic sequences will also be used to characterize the genes responsible forthe pathogenicity of M. agassizii andM. testudineum.
