This Colorado State University grant focuses on assessing the extent of marine and aquatic invasive species within National Park Service (NPS) waters, aiming to identify significant data gaps. The project entails retrieving relevant species occurrence records from the Nonindigenous Aquatic Species Database. This data collection will specifically target watersheds encompassing national parks with valuable freshwater or saltwater fisheries. Aquatic experts within the parks and regions will then meticulously review and update these park-specific occurrence lists. The updated information will be communicated back to USGS database managers, ensuring accurate data. Ultimately, the compiled NPS occurrence data will be summarized in a comprehensive report, informing future management strategies.

Description: | This is a notice of intent only. This task agreement will gather information from available sources to document the extent of the marine and aquatic invasive species problem in NPS waters, and identify significant gaps in our information. The Project Chief will arrange a retrieval of relevant species occurrence records from Nonindigenous Aquatic Species Database. The retrieval will cover all records of occurrence of nonindigenous aquatic species in all watersheds (8-digit Hydrologic Unit Codes) containing national parks known to have significant freshwater or saltwater fisheries resources to manage. Park-specific lists of occurrences will then be reviewed and updated by aquatic experts in the parks and regions, and the updates will be communicated back to the USGS database managers. The updated NPS occurrence information will then be summarized in a report. |
