Eligibility

Eligible Applicants: Others (see text field entitled “Additional Information on Eligibility” for clarification)
Additional Information on Eligibility: This financial assistance opportunity is being issued under a Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program. CESU’s are partnerships that provide research, technical assistance, and education. Eligible recipients must be a participating partner of the Colorado Plateau Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program.

Additional Information

Agency Name: Geological Survey
Description: The objective of this research project is To estimate the probability of converting vacant / agricultural land to a higher (developed) land use and develop equations for model use. To apply econometric techniques in the form of a qualitative response regression to estimate the static probability of land use change and to couple this initial probability of land use change with a dynamic conditional probability approach such as Markov Chains (e.g., time of first passage to a developed state) to estimate the temporal change in the probability of land use change.  To incorporate the impact of an expansion of the urban development boundary, repeat sales, and other amenities on the probability of land conversion.  This will benefit the public by giving local decision makers a model for viewing land development decisions.

Additional Information

Agency Name: Geological Survey
Description: The objective of this research project is two fold:

One
Help to develop the hedonic methodology for land rental value (minimum value) for a pilot area. This is one of several “pieces” of methodology that will be developed for the greater model. This portion of the methodology will be used to determine the land rental value (minimum value), which in turn will be use to help determine the difference between land rental value and total value.

Two
On pilot area, use remote sensing from MRLI for estimating the accuracy for quantities/products to be sequestered. This will require knowledge of imagery, software, manual interpretation/digitizing of image, and ability to analyze the datasets. Benefitting society through the expansion of the set of considerations commonly used in planning.
