Additional Information

Agency Name: Geological Survey
Description: The US Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a funding
opportunity for research to synthesize the state of
scientific knowledge on transformational drought, and to
pursue methods for applying scientific synthesis research
to natural resource management. As the climate continues
to warm, drought is increasingly transforming ecosystems
in profound ways with significant impacts to local
communities. Although research has begun into the field
of transformational drought, common themes and key
research questions have yet to be identified. In
addition, managers lack the products necessary to apply
these findings to their decision making. A national-scale
synthesis of the state of the science is required to
identify the most promising areas of research and
applications to management. In addition, regional
syntheses and case studies should be identified to
support a national synthesis and to identify important
commonalities and differences. This funding opportunity
will go to support a national synthesis of the state of
the science of transformational drought, as well as
regional case studies and syntheses.
