Description:: The USGS is offering a funding opportunity entitled, Research and data development in the assignment of conservation measures to protected areas in the United States to facilitate data analyses that inform land management policy. This project has both policy research and data development components. The general purpose is to participate in a cooperative research and data development effort. The recipients will work with federal land managers and other colleagues to investigate the strengths and weaknesses of the existing conservation measures data framework as it applies to federal land management. The process should be reviewed in light of contemporary social and organizational conceptions of the role of ¿biodiversity¿ in conservation and land management. This information will support revisions to the conservation measures section of the PAD-US Data Standard, as well as updates to the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) geodatabase, a cooperative project sponsored by the USGS.
