The USGS is offering a grant through the Great Basin CESU for research focused on advancing the interpretation of avian biotelemetry data. The project aims to develop tools to analyze the vast GPS-GSM telemetry dataset available to USGS and collaborators, with the goal of publishing findings in wildlife management, conservation biology, or applied ecology journals. Applicants have the opportunity to contribute to the understanding of animal movement through innovative data analysis methods. Closing date for applications: January 8, 2016.

Description: | The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on advanced interpretation of avian biotelemetry data
Recent advances in animal biotelemetry have enabled detailed and novel data collection on animal movement. However, there is a paucity of tools available to interpret and analyze these data and the tools that do exist are often difficult to discover and challenging to use. Thus there is an important need to apply or develop novel tools to analyze the new data that are collected. It is the goal of this project to address that problem, using the massive existing GPS-GSM telemetry data set collected by and available to USGS and collaborators. These analyses could be published in a wildlife management, conservation biology or applied ecology journals. |
