Additional Information

Agency Name: National Institute of Food and Agriculture
Description: Military families face a lifestyle that includes frequent deployments and increased family separations. These challenges can affect military readiness. NIFA, the Land-Grant University System, and defense agencies partner to support military family and youth quality of life through extension educational programs and research designed to address the unique challenges associated with military family life. This mission-focused project cultivates collaborations with educational institutions, non-governmental and community-based organizations with appropriate expertise to support youth development needs of the Department of Army. Through this partnership, $2,727,273 is made available in Fiscal Year 2010 to support the 4-H Army Youth Development Project Operation: Military Kids initiative nationally in the arena of deployment support camps; and support a work force development program which allows Army youth to be placed in employment positions on installations and in turn receive stipends and certificates of completion.
