Description: | Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge (BCNWR) is part of the Hopper Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The Refuge was established in 1985 to provide foraging and roosting habitat for endangered California condors (Gymnogyps californianus). The immediate region around the Refuge includes other ecoregions such as the southern extent of the Coast Ranges and the San Joaquin Desert. Thus, BCNWR encompasses a diversity of habitat types that support a wide variety of plant and animal species. Some of these species are rare and of conservation concern. Several have been confirmed to occur on BCNWR, and others potentially occur there as well. The Recipient will provide assistance to BCNWR with surveying, managing, and conserving these biological resources. |
