This grant, the Race to the Top–Early Learning Challenge, is for the purpose of significantly improving the quality of early learning and development programs across states. Its primary objective is to close the achievement gap for children with high needs, particularly focusing on low-income and disadvantaged infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. States are supported in their efforts to increase the number and percentage of these vulnerable children enrolled in high-quality early learning environments. Furthermore, a key aim is to aid states in designing and implementing integrated systems of high-quality early learning and development programs and services. The overarching goal is to foster comprehensive improvements in early childhood education, ensuring equitable access and outcomes for all young learners, especially those from underserved backgrounds.
