Additional Information

Agency Name: National Energy Technology Laboratory
Description: The objective of the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications to further develop/scale novel Rare Earth Elements (REE) and Critical Materials (CM) extraction and separation concepts (i.e., a technology that is not currently available to deploy for REE/CM separation/extraction) to produce REEs and CMs from U.S. coal-based resources in bench-scale facilities. The FOA also seeks to solicit applications to further develop/scale bench-scale, conventional, REE recovery processes (i.e., a technology that may have been commercially deployed for another application, but not for REE/CM separation/extraction) to produce REEs and CMs from U.S. coal-based resources in pilot-scale facilities as well as address process optimization and efficiency improvements for the design, construction, and operation of pilot-scale research extraction/separation facilities, for recovery of REEs and CMs. This FOA consists of two (2) Areas of Interest (AOI). AOI 1 concerns the production of REEs and CMs; transitioning, scale-up and validation of novel extraction/separation concept development into bench-scale facility REE/CM production. AOI 2 concerns the production of REEs and CMs; transitioning, scale-up and validation of conventional extraction/separation processes from bench-scale to pilot-scale facility REE/CM production.
