The Department of Energy (DOE) is offering this grant to gather crucial information from hydropower owners, operators, and various stakeholders concerning efficiency, capacity, and water utilization improvements at existing U.S. hydropower facilities. This grant is for the purpose of identifying cost-effective and sustainable upgrades that can potentially add an estimated 8 to 16 GW of additional capacity and approximately 55 TWh of annual generation. DOE has developed the Hydropower Advancement Project (HAP) to foster the development of this vital resource. The department specifically seeks suggestions and comments on the objectives, rationale, methodology, and execution of the HAP initiative. These comments will assist DOE in refining this important initiative and its underlying methodology.
