Additional Information

Agency Name: National Park Service
Description: United State Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS) Notice of Intent to Award. This is not a request for applications. This funding opportunity is to provide public notice of NPS’s intention to fund the following project activities without full and open competition with the Sonoma State University (SSU) to collaboratively work with the National Park Service (NPS) to implement a program to engage in cooperating activities focused on promoting natural scientific research and monitoring related to the Bay Area National Parks. The Parks have critical research needs required for guiding management and policy, so that decisions are based on sound scientific inquiry. Furthermore, the NPS lacks some specific scientific expertise to address pressing management issues. Examples of needs for research include ungulate and vegetation ecology, and area where SSU has great expertise.
This cooperative agreement would facilitate continuity of long-term research and monitoring projects already underway between the NPS and SSU. Continuity in execution of the research is key to achieving the program outcomes intended to fulfill national NPS directives. Additionally, SSU possesses unique qualifications for the projects intended under this cooperative agreement. SSU has an extensive history of coordinated research projects with Point Reyes National Seashore and the National Park Service and employs staff at a skill level capable of providing the NPS with high quality research design and analysis to help answer complex questions. SSU additionally has a demonstrated track record of providing a high degree of matching funds for cooperative projects over the previous decade.
