It will introduce interns age 18-35, to resource stewardship and visitor services within a national park. This is an important part of the parkâ¿¿s desire to meet the call to action initiative of sustaining the next century of CARL relevance to all audiences. The interns will have an opportunity to gain experience in a national park, work alongside skilled professional interpreters and educators to increase their skill, knowledge and abilities in sharing CARL stories with a diverse audience. They will work in the division of interpretation and visitor services to provide scheduled interpretive tours of the Sandburg Home, operate the visitor shuttle which provides access to over 5,500 visitors a year, provide informal interpretation at the visitor information area of the Sandburg Home, and assist with ParKids summer program. They will serve more than 2,000 visitors through interpretive programming. The interns will gain experience working with the public and intern groups through training, skill development, mentoring and hands-on facilitation of programs. |
