Eligibility

Eligible Applicants:: Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
Additional Information on Eligibility:: Eligible applicants are limited to states (including territories), units of local government (including federally recognized tribal governments, as determined by the Secretary of the Interior), nonprofit and for-profit organizations (including tribal nonprofit and for-profit organizations), and institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education) with knowledge and experience working with tribal youth in Indian Country. For-profit organizations must agree to forgo any profit or management fee.

Eligible applicants who propose to provide direct services to youth must not include youth who are age 18 or older in the population to be served.

OJJDP welcomes joint applications from two or more eligible applicants; however, one applicant must be clearly indicated as the primary applicant (for correspondence, award, and management purposes) and the others indicated as co-applicants. In an instance of two or more eligible applicants filing one application jointly, each applicant must demonstrate knowledge and experience in working with tribal youth in Indian Country.

Description:: The award recipient will develop and implement the 2012 National Intertribal Youth Summit, a culturally appropriate youth leadership conference for at-risk American Indian and Alaska Native youth ages 14 to 17. The summit will examine critical tribal youth issues, such as teen dating violence, substance abuse, suicide, delinquency, and gang involvement, and will focus on leadership development. This program will be authorized by an act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice.
