Description:: | The Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA: Title 34 of Public Law 102-575, Section 3406 (b)(1)) authorizes and directs the Secretary of the DOI, in consultation with other State and Federal agencies, Indian tribes, and affected interests to develop and implement a program which makes all reasonable efforts to at least double natural production of anadromous fish in Central Valley rivers and streams. The Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) is uniquely qualified to do the data collection necessary for the Pilot Redd Dewatering Project as they are able to attain qualified staff who can work in a compatible manner with both cooperating agencies. The PSMFC staff will have the qualifications for data collection, boat safety, wading safety, mapping and use of GPS in addition to being familiar with the area that the work will occur. This project is to collect data to help us to understand at what flow conditions fall Chinook salmon redds are dewatered. The geographic area of concern is the mainstem Sacramento River from Keswick Dam to Red Bluff. |
