The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering the Clinical Translational Research Award to support studies focused on Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). This grant is for advancing clinical and translational research, fostering a reciprocal flow of insights between basic and clinical science. Its primary purpose is to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment of TSC. Projects eligible for support include studies moving from preclinical to clinical research, such as pilot clinical trials. It also encourages reverse translational research, involving the analysis of human anatomical substances or data associated with clinical trials. The goal is to develop models that accurately reflect clinical outcomes, thereby facilitating further translational research in this field.

Description: | The Clinical Translational Research Award supports forward and/or reverse clinical/translational studies that have a reciprocal flow of ideas and information between basic and clinical science and have the potential to improve the diagnosis, prognosis or treatment of TSC. Projects supported by this award mechanism may include studies moving from preclinical to clinical research (including a pilot clinical trial) and/or the reverse, analyzing human anatomical substances and/or data associated with clinical trials (such as correlative studies) to develop models that recapitulate relevant clinical outcomes for use in translational research. Developmental pathways for translational research that may be useful for designing translational research studies for support under this mechanism can be found in the report of the National Cancer Institute Translational Research Working group (http://clincancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/14/18/5664.full). These pathways are comprehensive and span the entire translational research continuum from bench to bedside to bench. |
