| Additional Information on Eligibility: | All types of domestic applicants are eligible to apply as prime applicants, except FFRDC Contractors, and nonprofit organizations described in section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 that engaged in lobbying activities after December 31, 1995. FFRDCs, including the DOE National Laboratory Contractors, may be proposed as subawardees that will—if selected for funding—be paid directly by DOE.
Non-domestic institutions are ineligible to apply as prime applicants, but may apply as subawardees. Applicants are advised that successful applications that include non-domestic institutions must include a detailed demonstration of how the non-domestic institution possesses skills, resources and abilities that do not exist among potential domestic institutions. Applications from for-profit organizations that propose research related to current commercial activity may be declined without merit review. |

The DOE SC program in Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) hereby announces its interest in receiving new applications for fundamental research for public benefit in the area of Quantum Information Science (QIS). Responsive applications will propose research that could have a transformative impact on FES mission areas including fusion and discovery plasma science and / or advance QIS development enabled by FES-supported science. While fully recognizing the interdisciplinary and crosscutting nature of QIS, responsive applications will focus on areas consistent with the unique role of FES in this rapidly developing field. More specific information about responsive areas is included in the supplementary information section below. |
