Description: The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) in partnership with the Secretary?s Office of Global Women?s Issues (S/GWI) announce a Request for Proposals from organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects that promote women?s political, economic and social advancement in Iraq pursuant to the goals and objectives of the U.S. National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security and U.S. Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence Globally. 1. Women, Peace and Security: Advancing Women as Elected Government Representatives. DRL and S/GWI?s objective is to advance women?s political participation in anticipation of the 2014 national elections and through post-election support for elected women representatives. The program should enhance the competitiveness of women candidates registered with the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq. Pending availability, USD $1,000,000 is expected to be available for one 18 month program.2. Women, Peace and Security: Advancing Women in the Workforce in Iraq. This program will connect 400 women to mid to high-level employment opportunities in the banking, hospitality and/or other industries. Formal Memoranda of Understanding must be signed with prospective employers as well as the Government of Iraq as required under Iraqi law. Pending availability, USD $1,200,000 is expected to be available for one 18 to 22 month program.
