In an ambitious move to strengthen electoral processes and civic engagement in the United States, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has announced the “Help America Vote College Program Poll Worker Grant Program,” identified as EAC-23-001. This initiative, falling under the discretionary category, is focused on enriching federal, state, and local elections by providing significant financial support to eligible entities. With a total funding pool of $850,000 and individual grants ranging between $45,000 and $100,000, the program aims to fund approximately 10 innovative projects that effectively merge educational institutions’ efforts with election processes.
The scope of this grant is broad, encompassing a diverse range of eligible applicants, including state governments, various types of nonprofits, educational institutions, small businesses, Native American tribal organizations, and more. The EAC places a strong emphasis on creating enduring partnerships that extend beyond the grant period, recommending collaboration with a wide array of educational and governmental bodies. This program represents a unique opportunity for eligible organizations to play a pivotal role in enhancing the democratic process by supporting the recruitment and training of poll workers, particularly from higher education communities. The deadline for application is set for December 18, 2023, offering a strategic window for organizations to contribute to a more inclusive and robust electoral system.
