Environment and Climate Change Canada is offering a grant for Shorebird Movements in the U.S. Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf. This grant aims to provide crucial information on migratory shorebird species, including the Federally-threatened rufa Red Knot, to assess the impact of offshore wind energy development. The project supports sustainability efforts in developing offshore wind energy and will be used in NEPA assessments and Section 7 Consultations. This opportunity aligns with the Department of Interior¿s priorities of energy and natural resources sustainability, conservation stewardship, and regulatory balance.

Description: | This is an announcement for issuing a single source financial assistance award to Government of Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, National Wildlife Research Centre. This announcement is for notification purposes only. The intent of the award is Shorebird Movements in the U.S. Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf. This award is made under the authority of Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, as amended, 16 U.S.C. 742a-754; Migratory Bird Treaty Act, 16 U.S.C. 703 -712; and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 16 U.S.C. 2901-2911. This project provides priority information on several migratory shorebird species (including the Federally-threatened rufa Red Knot) towards sustainability developing offshore wind energy in the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). This information is essential for evaluating risk of these species from offshore wind energy development and will be used in NEPA assessments and Section 7 Consultations between Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and USFWS. This project supports the Department of Interior¿s priorities of ¿sustainably developing our energy and natural resources¿, ¿creating a conservation stewardship legacy, second only to Teddy Roosevelt¿ and ¿striking a regulatory balance¿. |
