The Environmental Protection Agency is offering grants to support organizations in providing environmental workforce development and job training programs. These programs aim to train unemployed and under-employed individuals for full-time employment in the environmental field, focusing on waste remediation, environmental health, safety, and wastewater-related training. Proposals should align with the outlined training requirements but allow flexibility in curriculum design to address local labor market needs. The grants, awarded as cooperative agreements, involve EPA’s significant involvement in the financial assistance provided. Deadline for submissions is April 12, 2012.

Description:: | This notice announces the availability of funds and solicits proposals from eligible entities, including non-profit organizations, to deliver environmental workforce development and job training programs that recruit, train, and place local, unemployed and under-employed residents with the skills needed to secure full-time employment in the environmental field, with a focus on solid and hazardous waste remediation, environmental health and safety, and wastewater-related training. While Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grants require that certain types of training be provided, as outlined in Section III.C., Threshold Eligibility Criteria, applicants may design their own curricula and choose what types of supplemental environmental training they want to deliver as referenced in Section I.B., Use of Grant Funds.
