Additional Information on Eligibility: Notice of intent to award to the University of Hawaii a grant agreement for $31,728 under justification 505 DM 2.14 (B4). The University of Hawaii is considered the experts in malacology within this region. Other known regional expertise in this subject matter are unavailable for the immediate performance timeframe. The University of Hawaii and Dr. Hadfield have an excellent reputation for conducting the appropriate surveys and producing the reports that are required for this project. No substantial involvement on the part of the Service is anticipated for the successful completion of the objectives to be funded. It is anticipated that the Service’s involvement will consist of standard Federal stewardship responsibilities, such as monitoring project performance, technical assistance at the request of the recipient, etc.

The objective is to complete the surveys of the remote Northern Mariana Islands. This project will benefit the public by providing scientific information on terrestrial snails present on Pagan to determine the impact of the increase of military training in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
