The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is offering a grant to establish an interdisciplinary center. This grant is for developing methodologies and practices that apply a holistic life cycle perspective to material design. The aim of the center will be to produce materials that minimize, and preferably eliminate, any associated potential environmental and human health impacts throughout their entire life cycle. By integrating this comprehensive approach, the EPA seeks to advance the development of safer and more sustainable materials, considering all stages from inception to disposal.
