The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced the availability of grants under the 2024 Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund Traditional Conservation Grants Program for Region 4, identified as opportunity number F24AS00199. This grants program, with an estimated total funding of $3,371,354, represents a crucial effort in supporting state governments in conserving and recovering threatened and endangered species. The program prioritizes projects that directly benefit federally listed species, candidate species, and recently delisted species, underlining the Service’s commitment to ecological preservation and species recovery.
The essence of this funding opportunity is to facilitate state programs in implementing effective conservation strategies. Eligible state agencies, which must have a cooperative agreement with the Service pursuant to section 6(c) of the Endangered Species Act, are invited to submit applications for projects that encompass management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities. The focus is on clear, specific proposals that demonstrate a tangible benefit to species recovery or contribute to preventing the need to list species under the Endangered Species Act. With a substantial award ceiling and a wide scope of potential projects, the grants are poised to have a significant impact on conservation efforts within Region 4. State governments are encouraged to prepare comprehensive applications ahead of the May 03, 2024 deadline, with a view to advancing regional conservation goals and protecting vital ecosystems and species.
