The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is offering this grant to establish a Center of Excellence (COE) for Environment and Energy (E&E) in FY13. This grant is for a consortium of university partners, collaborating with the FAA and private industry, to collectively address critical business and operational issues concerning aviation’s environmental and energy impact. The selected COE will conduct a broad range of research, including aircraft noise and emissions, technology assessment, alternative jet fuels, environmentally efficient operations, and aviation environmental policy and modeling. The FAA anticipates the COE will attract interest from various organizations to solve unique aviation challenges related to environment and energy. Potential applicants will be selected based on their research capabilities, leadership in air transportation, established programs, and ability to disseminate research findings.
