This grant is for the purpose of providing States with financial assistance to protect and restore valuable coastal wetlands. These vital ecosystems defend against flooding, maintain water quality, provide crucial wildlife habitats, and support economically significant industries like fishing and tourism. The program funds the acquisition of real property interests in coastal lands for long-term conservation, and the restoration, enhancement, or management of existing coastal wetlands. Funded restoration efforts can involve re-establishing wetland hydrology, planting native vegetation, and removing invasive species to improve native fish and wildlife habitats. All projects must ensure long-term conservation outcomes.
