Additional Information

Agency Name: DOT – Federal Railroad Administration
Description: This directed grant will enable the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to deploy a survey in conjunction with a study on the effectiveness of cameras at grade crossings to detect, deter, and enforce grade crossing violations. FRA is partnering with the City of Orlando, Florida and Volpe on this study.

The study’s goals are to determine: (1) the effectiveness of cameras and accompanying signage to detect and deter highway-rail grade crossing violations along a mixed rail corridor (i.e., proof-of-concept), and (2) the human factors related to grade crossing violations. Orlando will deploy a survey, funded by this directed grant, to collect the human factors data.
