The Fish and Wildlife Department offers a grant to assist the Karuk Tribe in developing a habitat enhancement plan for Coho salmon in the middle Klamath Basin. The plan aims to evaluate potential enhancement projects at 15 tributary sites, considering restoration opportunities guided by scientific research like the Klamath River Coho Ecology Study. This grant opportunity aligns with the Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, supporting efforts to improve Coho habitat and address the ecological complexities of the Klamath River region.

Description: | Funds under this award are to be used to help the Karuk Tribe to develop a plan for enhancing Coho salmon habitat in the middle Klamath Basin. The goal of the planning effort is to assess up to 15 tributary sites in the mid-Klamath Basin where each site could yield multiple enhancement projects. The planning effort would also scope out possibilities for restoration work at each tributary. The habitat enhancement plan would be guided by the best available science such as the Klamath River Coho Ecology Study. The study developed by the Karuk Tribe and others acknowledges the diversity of habitat utilization demonstrated by local Coho population and the complex nature of the Klamath Riverâ¿¿s ecology. This award is made under the authority of: Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, as amended, 16 U.S.C. 742a-742j. |
