| Description: | This notice is an announcement for issuing a single source financial assistance award to Birdlife International, Portugal, Quito, Ecuador. The intent of this award is that this program will support the maintenance of the Woodbourne Shorebird Refuge on Barbados. Barbadosâ¿¿ position in the western Atlantic makes it an important stopover for shorebirds during adverse weather. This did not go unnoticed by Barbadian planters, and the shooting of shorebirds has been a tradition on Barbados since the early colonial era. In 2008, the Woodbourne Shorebird Refuge was leased and restored, and shorebird response was immediate, and thousands of shorebirds now use this no-shooting refugium. The goal of this program is to maintain Woodbourne as a no-shooting reserve on Barbados. This program addresses the key action to Establish and Maintain No-Shooting Reserves identified in the Atlantic Flyway Shorebird Initiativeâ¿¿s 2016 Plan to Address the Sustainability of Shorebird Harvest in the Western Atlantic. |
