Additional Information

Agency Name: National Park Service
Description: The objective of this Task Agreement is to collaborate on planning and implementation of the Golden Gate National Parks 2014 BioBlitz. This BioBlitz is part of a collaboration between National Geographic and the National Park Service during the decade leading up to the U.S. National Park Service Centennial in 2016. Each year, a BioBlitz is held in a different urban National Park. The Golden Gate National Parks BioBlitz will take place March 28 and 29, 2014. A BioBlitz is a 24-hour event in which teams of volunteer scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi, and other organisms as possible. The goals of BioBlitz include discovering, counting and learning about the biodiversity of the park, providing opportunities for the public and students to interact with scientists, and educating students and the public about the extraordinary biodiversity of the park.

The GGNPC is uniquely qualified to participate in the planning and implementation of this event. As our non-profit support partner, the GGNPC frequently assists in planning and hosting park events similar to BioBlitz. GGNPC staff have extensive experience working with the GGNRA and are familiar with GGNRA approaches, policies and procedures. In addition, GGNPC staff have already been heavily involved in the initial stages of planning of this event.

By partnering with the GGNPC, GGNRA is provided with unique resources, including support from staff with knowledge of and experience with event management and science communications. This knowledge and experience base will allow this project to be completed efficiently and successfully.
