| Description: | The overall purpose of placement of a Risk Management Intern for this project is to design and set up an automated data collection system using MS Excel or MS Access. The intern will input a five year history of accident statistics from archived reports and then analyze the data to determine the current status of visitor injuries throughout Golden Gate National Recreation Area and, based on availability of the data, conduct a trend analysis to estimate the nature of injuries, where they occur, when they occur, who is involved in the process, victim characteristics, and types of avoidable hazards. The intern would spend time in the field at locations identified through the trend analysis to observe visitor use and enter into discussion with visitors to learn more about recreational interests, risk perceptions, and other useful information as appropriate. The later part of the internship will be spent analyzing the information gathered and working with park staff to develop a plan of action to address the results which may include looking at staffing needs, publications, signage, and website information. |
