This Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant is for projects focused on restoring and protecting the Great Lakes ecosystem. Approximately $20 million is available for about 100 projects, contingent on application quality and funding. Eligible entities are invited to apply for initiatives within four key focus areas: reducing toxic substances in the most polluted areas, instituting a zero-tolerance policy toward new invasive species, improving nearshore health by reducing polluted runoff from urban, suburban, and agricultural sources, and strengthening accountability through education, monitoring, evaluation, communication, and strategic partnerships, including climate change resiliency efforts. This funding supports comprehensive efforts to enhance the Great Lakes environment as outlined in the GLRI Action Plan.
