Additional Information

Agency Name: National Institutes of Health
Description: This initiative encourages research focused on development of and testing the effectiveness of intervention approaches that utilize enhanced interpersonal strategies to strengthen and compliment efforts in suicide prevention. Existing suicide prevention practices emphasize safety management protocols and intrapersonal coping skills but tend to focus less on strategies addressing interpersonal targets that contribute to suicide risk. The intent of this initiative is to develop and/or utilize interpersonal treatment strategies that reduce risk by enhancing perceived social supports and connections that contribute to life-affirming beliefs, intentions, and behaviors, in ways consistent with conceptual models of suicide risk, to enhance the effectiveness of existing evidence-based treatments and develop new approaches, as indicated.
