This Housing Development grant offers the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) to facilitate innovative, geographically diverse homeownership. This grant is specifically for self-help housing programs, requiring significant homebuyer sweat-equity in dwelling construction or rehabilitation. Funds are strictly for land acquisition and infrastructure improvements; construction costs must be sourced from other leveraged public and private funds. Administered by national and regional nonprofits, SHOP aims to produce decent, safe, non-luxury dwellings. These homes must be available to eligible homebuyers at prices below prevailing market rates, promoting accessible and sustainable homeownership.
