Additional Information

Agency Name: Bureau of International Narcotics-Law Enforcement
Description: The purpose of the Sahel Road Safety Initiative is to help Senegalese and Burkinabe law enforcement use road safety as a tool to improve the social contract with their citizens. Road safety is defined as prevention, response, and public engagement/advocacy used to reduce traffic fatalities and criminality on/around roads, including banditry and corruption.
Given the context, INL believes that progress on changing perceptions will require thoughtful analysis, close engagement with host country and citizens alike and an adaptive, iterative approach to hone hypotheses, respond to and anchor ideas in local actors, and identify and capitalize on emerging opportunities and navigate constraints.

Additional Information

Agency Name: Bureau of International Narcotics-Law Enforcement
Description: The purpose of the Sahel Road Safety Initiative is to help Senegalese and Burkinabe law enforcement agencies increase road safety and improve citizens’ perceptions about law enforcement. Doing so will require both tangible improvement in performance and increased communications efforts to promote and publicize transparency, accountability, and performance improvements. This project will provide technical training to improve police skills and knowledge, and engage at the strategic level with issues of policies, procedures, planning, leadership, and corruption. The approach will include creative efforts to reframe the relationship between citizens and law enforcement that harness relevant lessons from behavioral economics, social psychology, and behavioral change models.
