Agency Name: Department of Homeland Security – FEMA
Description: Grant funding will be used by KYTC to assist other states in obtaining software installation services, and to establish a web-based server connection needed to verify birth record information for individuals applying for REAL ID driver’s licenses or ID cards. Verification of vital events records, specifically verification of an individual’s birth record information is a basic requirement all states need to fulfill before issuing a Real ID driver’s license or ID card. KYTC is using existing FEMA/GPD REAL ID grant dollars to test and conduct a proof of concept for a REAL ID birth records verification process utilizing a web-based software application. Since birth records verification is an essential requirement for REAL ID, this funding will allow any State without an online birth records verification capability to acquire software installation services and network assistance from KYTC to connect to a web-based server.
