Agency Name: Georgia USAID-Tbilisi
Description: The objective of the “Civic Education in Georgia” project is to improve the quality and scope of school-based civic education in Georgia as a means to increase the skills and commitment of youth to participatory democracy. This three-year, $2.69 million activity will be implemented through a competitively awarded cooperative agreement. The program will activate students’ knowledge about democratic institutions, principles and practices, instill an ethic of participatory democracy in teachers, students and administrators, and create a foundation for constructive and effective citizen participation in Georgia’s political processes. The main focus of this project will be on school-based civic education for older students (grades 9 – 12).

The principal counterpart in the Government of Georgia (GOG) will be the Ministry of Education and Science (MES). The project will also collaborate with individual schools, school boards, teachers, students, local NGOs, publishers and others to address a variety of improvements in this sector.
