Research to be supported will reduce the uncertainties inrisk predictions for cancer/ radiation risks; provide the necessarydata/knowledge to develop risk projection models for central nervoussystem (CNS) and other degenerative tissue risks; and advance theunderstanding of the mechanisms of biological damage that underliesradiation health risks.On or about March 17, 2009 this NRA will be available electronically byopening the NASA Research Opportunities homepage athttp://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and then linking through the menu listings”Solicitations” to “Open Solicitations.” This National Aeronautics andSpace Administration (NASA) Research Announcement (NRA) solicitsground-based proposals for the Space Radiation Program Element (SRPE)components of the Human Research Program (HRP).Proposals are solicited by the SRPE in the area of Space RadiationBiology utilizing beams of high energy heavy ions simulating spaceradiation at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL), at BrookhavenNational Laboratory (BNL) in Upton, New York.Step-1 proposals are due on April 23, 2009, and invited Step-2 proposalsare due on June 25, 2009. Proposals are required to be submittedelectronically and must be submitted by an authorized official of theproposing organization.Participation is open to all categories of organizations, includingeducational institutions, industry, nonprofit organizations, NASACenters, and other Government Agencies. Electronic proposals may besubmitted via the NASA Centers, and other Government Agencies.Electronic proposals may be submitted via the NASA Proposal data systemNSPIRES or via Grants.gov. Every organization that intends to submit aproposal in response to this NRA must be registered with NSPIRES, andsuch registration must identify the authorized organizationalrepresentative(s) who will submit the electronic proposal.
