| Category Explanation: | The goals and objectives of MCA (which shall be addressed by proposers) are as follows: Goal 1: Strengthen the research capacity of MSI 2-year/community colleges and 4-year colleges/universities (at the student and institutional levels) through curriculum improvement and/or development in areas aligned with the work of NASA Mission Directorates (MDs). Objective 1: Develop curriculum for one or more new or revised for-credit courses, certificates, or degree pathways (Associates or Bachelors) in STEM disciplines that are focused on areas of priority for NASA MDs (See EONS-2023, Appendix 8 for listings of MD priorities and points of contact) through partnership with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from at least one NASA Center or facility. Objective 2: Provide faculty professional development on culturally relevant and responsive instruction through partnerships with other MSIs, non-MSI institutions of higher education, and/or other SMEs in STEM education, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access (DEIA) or other related fields, and include these elements in curriculum developed. Objective 3: Upgrade STEM laboratory and other instructional equipment and materials to support teaching and learning in new/revised curricular offerings. Goal 2: Build a diverse future STEM workforce by engaging students in authentic learning through curricular and experiential experiences with NASA’s people, content and facilities and providing support for academic success. Objective 1: Implement a recruitment strategy for attracting diverse students into new curricular offerings. Objective 2: Offer experiential learning experiences for MSI students via paid NASA internships, paid research projects/placements at institutions of higher education, and/or apprenticeships in industry to build career awareness. Objective 3: Implement culturally responsive academic support services for students enrolled in new NASA-infused curricular offerings and other STEM programs. |
