The National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) offers the STATEMAP grant, a vital initiative aimed at establishing the geologic framework within areas crucial to the economic, social, or scientific welfare of individual States. This grant is specifically designed for state-level geologic mapping, with priorities determined by the State Geologist in consultation with a multi-representational State Mapping Advisory Committee. The focus is on addressing state requirements for essential geologic-map information. Priorities are carefully selected based on two primary criteria: a) areas with multiple-issue or compelling single-issue needs for geologic data, and b) regions where mapping is essential to effectively solve critical earth-science problems. This ensures the grant directly supports state-defined geological priorities.
