The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is offering this grant to bring professional performances of William Shakespeare’s plays and related educational activities to middle and high school students in communities across the United States. This grant is for the purpose of enriching cultural experiences, particularly for those in juvenile justice facilities, providing many with their initial exposure to live, professional theater and Shakespeare. Since its inception in 2003, the program has engaged approximately 2.5 million students. Looking ahead to 2025, the initiative will broaden its scope to include works inspired by Shakespeare and introduce apprenticeships for early and mid-career theater administrators and technicians. NEA funds will support essential program management expenses and provide subgrants to participating theater companies.
