Description: This is an announcement for issuing a single source financial assistance grant award to BirdsCaribbean. This announcement is for notification purposes only. This intent of the award is to Shorebird Harvest along the Atlantic Flyway in Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. The award is issued to provide financial assistance: Guadeloupe and Martinique: BirdsCaribbean shall furnish the necessary personnel, material, equipment, and services The project will describe the ecological role of islands in the archipelago of Guadeloupe for supporting shorebirds throughout their life cycles. Field work will identify sites frequented by birds, their residence time, migration stopover, differences in migration strategies between juveniles and adults, trophic links with functional sites used in migration and wintering. An assessment of the capacities of the actual and protected natural sites will be conducted to determine if French legislation and regulations associated with the management of these sites are able to ensure sustainable management of shorebirds that are mostly declining. It will also include the practices and customs of the local population due to the presence of birds as well as to their habitats. This work should lead to proposals for integrated managements of habitats and species frequented by birds.
