The National Health Institute is offering this grant to support a national survey of professional dementia care providers. This grant is for the purpose of expanding research on the dementia care workforce and understanding how providers and institutions deliver care to persons living with dementia. It seeks to link consented survey respondents with administrative data like electronic health records and claims. This new resource will provide deeper insight into the supply of skilled labor and care provision. A key focus is oversampling individuals from populations underrepresented in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) research, including various professional caregiving roles and institutions serving these communities. This initiative aims to identify modifiable behaviors and organizational factors that can improve healthcare delivery, address variations in care, and ultimately eliminate AD/ADRD disparities.

Description: | This RFA supports a national survey of professional dementia care providers and link consented survey respondents (providers and institutional representative) that consent to administrative data (e.g., electronic health records, claims, payroll, other institutional and state level data). This new resource anticipates the integration from administrative sources with the provider survey to expand research on the dementia care workforce, supply of skilled labor, and provide deeper insight into how professional care providers and institutions provide care for persons living with dementia. The national survey will oversample individuals from populations underrepresented in research on Alzheimers disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) who serve in various professional caregiving roles (e.g., physicians, other care providers such as licensed practical nurses [LPNs], social workers) and institutions serving predominately underrepresented populations. This will allow examination of how the characteristics of professional care providers and the institutions employing them lead to variation in care provided to persons living with dementia and identify modifiable organization and individual behaviors that can improve overall health care delivery and eliminate AD/ADRD disparities. |
