This grant is for establishing or renewing Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR) dedicated to advancing behavioral and social science research in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD). Its core purpose is two-fold: firstly, to significantly diversify the AD/ADRD research workforce by actively mentoring promising scientists from diverse backgrounds in critical social, behavioral, psychological, and economic research areas. Secondly, the grant aims to develop a robust research and mentoring infrastructure. This infrastructure will foster rigorous research and drive scientific advances in key behavioral and social science domains related to AD/ADRD, encompassing cognitive epidemiology, early functional changes, prevention strategies, dementia care, caregiving dynamics, and health disparities. Applications are encouraged to propose multipronged, collaborative approaches that champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within a supportive research environment.

Description: | This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications from institutions proposing to develop, or renew, a Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR) that focuses on behavioral and social science research in a key area related to Alzheimers disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD). The goal of the AD/ADRD RCMAR program is two-fold: (1) to diversify the AD/ADRD research workforce in priority areas of social, behavioral, psychological, and economic research related to AD/ADRD by mentoring promising scientists from diverse backgrounds; and 2) to develop a research and mentoring infrastructure to foster rigorous research and lead to scientific advances in priority areas of behavioral and social science related to AD/ADRD, including, but not limited to, the following: cognitive and dementia epidemiology, behavioral and social pathways to AD/ADRD, early psychological and functional changes, AD/ADRD prevention, dementia care, caregiving/care partners, and AD/ADRD health disparities and health inequities. To achieve the goal of the AD/ADRD RCMAR program, applications should propose multipronged, collaborative approaches in a supportive environment that embraces, integrates, and strengthens diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). |
