Additional Information

Agency Name: Department of Commerce
Description: NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA/NMFS) is soliciting proposals for the 2011 Pacific Islands Region Marine Turtle Program that will support specific programmatic activities for conservation, protection, or management of listed sea turtle species either occurring within the Pacific Islands Region (PIR) or those that have documented linkages to the PIR, such as turtles that may originate from areas outside U.S. jurisdiction but migrate through or forage within the PIR or may interact with PIR fisheries managed by NOAA/NMFS.
The PIR is comprised of the exclusive economic zones (EEZs) adjacent to the State of Hawaii, U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and the U.S. Pacific Remote Island Areas (PRIAs) of Jarvis, Johnston, Wake, Howland and Baker Islands, Kingman Reef, and Palmyra and Midway Atolls. Sea turtle species occurring in the PIR include: leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea), hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) loggerhead (Caretta caretta), green (Chelonia mydas), and olive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea).
