| Description: | This project will reduce the risk of catastrophic fire to natural resources, infrastructure, and campgrounds. Key resources in the project area include: Baker Creek, Strawberry Creek, and Gray Cliffs Campgrounds; numerous springs and water supplies; and sagebrush, ponderosa pine, aspen, and riparian ecosystems.
It is anticipated that four hundred acres will be mechanically thinned, chipped, seeded, and piled over the duration of this agreement. Qualified crews may perform hazardous tree removal from campgrounds and prescribed burning. Crews will work within piñon and juniper, mountain mahogany, aspen, and riparian ecosystems. Thinning areas will be flagged and well-marked. The program model for this cooperative agreement utilizes youth participants aged 15-25 to cut trees and vegetation, haul and pile fuel wood, seed native plant species, and chip and pile slash according to prescriptions developed jointly between the NPS and the recipient. |
