OVERVIEW, RECIPIENT AND NPS INVOLVEMENT

The Montana Conservation Corps will collaborate with the National Park Service (NPS) for Trail Maintenance 2016. The project will meet the goals of the program – accomplishment of resource projects, inclusion into the community where the work takes place and an educational learning component regarding natural resource protection.

Substantial involvement on the part the National Park Service (NPS) is anticipated for the successful completion of the objectives to be funded by this award. NPS staff will assist with MCC desire to build upon the good record established by environmental organizations of developing youths and supporting the NPS’s resources in a cost effective and efficient manner, especially when they have worked together in partnership with the NPS.

Montana Conversation Corps will assist the park’s revegetation crew with work on a variety of projects on the west and east sides of Glacier National Park including planting along the GTSR, possible whitebark and limbe pine planting, and other resource management projects. Additional activities will include assistance with nursery closing, seed collection and nursery maintenance activities at park headquarters.

NPS did not solicit full and open competition for this award based the following criteria:

Three members of the 21st Century Conservation Corp Program were considered for this award and the Montana Conversation Corps was selected based on the Montana Conservation Corps was selected for several reasons. MCC has been partnering in Glacier National Park for more than 19 consecutive years.
