Description: |
The objective of this Agreement is to assemble a youth work crew to assist Quincy Mine Hoist Association (QMHA) with preservation maintenance activities involving cultural landscapes, historic structures, and museum collections contained within the Quincy Mining Company NHL District. The crew will consist of six high school youth who will each work nine weeks during the summer season and the youth work leader will work 13 weeks to allow for training, project preparation, and closeout. Through this project in Heritage Conservation and Construction, the youth crew will learn hands-on skills necessary to successfully complete a preservation construction project on time, on budget, and with the quality deserving of places listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The NPS will be collaborating with the Recipient to ensure that the instructions meets or exceeds The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Child and Family Services of NW Michigan (Youth Works) is located in northwest Lower Michigan and serves youth in a 16 county area surrounding the park. They are uniquely qualified for the historic preservation focus for this youth project at the Quincy Mining Company National Historic Landmark (NHL) District through their association with HistoriCorps Institute, which is the education and training arm and a nationally recognized leader in preservation education.
